The Winners!

Congratulations to the U15 Stafford Revolution 99G Blue!

They submitted a fantastic entry into our contest and gave us some great reasons why they would like to meet Ali Krieger at the VYSA Convention!
In case you missed it, here is their entry.

This is an exceptional group of student athletes proud to be competing in WAGS D2 in the Spring.  These young ladies have been together for the most part since U10, which is rare, but much like Ali's youth soccer experience with her core team.  At this very influential age where young women often leave the sport for various reasons it would prove very motivational to meet one of their idols, especially one from their own backyard that just happens to be one of our Nation's best players ever.

Their coach, Heidi Wilbrandt (former D1 player at Davidson, and currently carries her USSF C License) recounts her experience when she was their age and had the opportunity to meet Mia Hamm in Chicago on a World Cup qualifying tour and how much it meant to her.  She sites that experience as one of the reason she pursued college soccer and continued her love for the beautiful game through teaching others as a coach for the last 6 years.  If meeting Ali could touch even one of these players in the same way that would be more than amazing.

When these young ladies were asked why they would want to meet Ali (over a team group text of course - how modern), these were some of their responses and should be considered as the answer to why they would like to meet her:

"I would like to meet her so I can ask her about what kind of commitment it takes to go pro since she started at our level and in our area."

"I would like to meet her because she is such an inspiration to all young soccer players.  She has accomplished so many things and being able to meet her would be unbelievable.  She's such an inspiration and an amazing soccer player.  Being able to ask her questions about her soccer life and how it all works would be a wonderful experience for me as well as my team"

"I want to meet her to ask her questions on how she got to the professional soccer level.  Also about what we should be focusing on at our age to become all around better soccer players for the future."

"I want to know her favorite soccer player of all time, and why?"

"I would like to meet her because not only is it an incredible opportunity, but I feel that we would grow as soccer players.  Being able to meet one of your idols is an amazing experience, and meeting a national team player who has been through intense training and extreme commitments would be inspiring to all of us.  I know our team would not waste such and incredible gift."

"I would like to meet her to ask her how hard it was for her to build up a brand new team and help them become undefeated."

"I would like to meet Ali because I look up to her and she's an amazing athlete.  I want a hug."

"I would like to ask Ali about overcoming the obstacles she faced when recovering from her ACL surgery."

"Ali is such a great athlete, from our area, and is a beautiful person.  I would like to ask her about her childhood, and what she was doing at our age to prepare for the next level."

Stafford Revolution 04G Blue U10 Girls: I was lucky enough to take this team this season and these young ladies seem to amaze me more and more each practice and game, they remind me why I coach. They put all-out effort into everything and they strive to get better with every touch of the ball. They play with heart and determination and never give up on each other, they are truly 11 "sisters" on the field. They are the definition of teamwork and dedication to the sport! -Thank you kindly, Monica Lovett-Groat

SOCA U12 Boys Classic White: My U12 Boys travel team has 12 very motivated and hardworking boys that continuously want to get better. The team won the preseason Region Cup 2000 tournament in Lynchburg. The team won the first 4 league games. We had 5 returning players from last year and added 7 new players this year. Three players on the team participate in ODP/ODP Academy training. Players show up to practice and work very hard and take what we learn to the games and apply it. This team would love a chance to win a training session with the expert coaches of the VYSA. -Coach Wissam Zaatar

NVSC U12 Girls:  My name is Dan Kennedy. I coach U12 girls in Prince William County for the NVSC. My girls have been playing together for a few seasons, but they could use a little help with ball control and positioning. They've worked very hard in practice and deserve a chance to train with some professionals that can really teach them something. This is my first season as a head coach and I was an assistant for four but before that I didn't know much about soccer. I enjoy coaching so much. I would love to bring my girls down there learn something from professionals as well. I think it would be a very good experience for them! Thank You!

SYC U9 Rangers:  I would love for my U9 Boys team to win this Training Contest and here’s why they deserve to win! This is my first year coaching, there weren't enough coaches for our SYC teams (blame it on the FIFA World Cup), so two days before practice was to start I reluctantly agreed to coach. I was a bit terrified at the prospect, but let me tell you, I have had more fun with these guys than I ever could have imagined!
They are enthusiastic and so eager to learn the sport of soccer. They all show up to practice and to games with smiles and great attitudes on time or early. I have varying levels of experience (from never having played before to a couple of great little players), but they are really working well together. I am so proud of these guys because their sportsmanship has been tremendous!
We have lost all our games except one (another reason why this training would be great) but even in their losses, they have proved themselves to be young gentlemen in their attitudes and actions.
The one game we did win one of our players approached an opposing team member who was in tears over losing the game, encouraged him and gave him his team snack! It was beautiful to see. I credit the parents of these young men because they are all awesome!
Everybody really enjoys just being at the games and cheering our team on, and they model sportsmanship by cheering the other team on as well. It’s truly remarkable for the competitive, and often crazy Northern Virginia area. I am hoping this team can stay together in years to come, so a training like this would get us (team and coach alike) well on our way to becoming even better players. Thank you for this opportunity, I know that some deserving team will benefit greatly from a training like this.  Sincerely, Kira Allison
